Lizzie takes a prize!

After about 3 years of transitioning to my new SteamFolk painting style, I finally felt a sense of accomplishment with a 1st place win at the 2010 Monson Arts Council Show and Sale with "Lizzie's Return to Centre County".

There were 350 entries with about 142 accepted into the show representing 94 area artists. There were categories for Painting, Drawing, Photography and 3D Sculpture-- and I placed 1st in the Painting category. This is a very meaningful win to me because not only is this my first time entering into the Monson Arts Council show, I grew up right around the corner from this place.  All in all, a wonderful milestone..... A special thanks goes out to my wonderful wife Michele who has been so patient and supportive with my painting ambitions over the years.

Reasons to buy contemporary art....

I came across this from http://www.galleriavivace.com and though it was a good Top 10 List.......

TOP 10 REASONS TO BUY ORIGINAL ARTWORKS FROM CONTEMPORARY ARTISTS:

#10 - Art is eternal. Quality art lasts a lifetime and beyond. Be the first to own a piece of original artwork by a local artist.
#9 - Art is unique. You will own something not only beautiful, but also absolutely unique. No one else in the world has it!
#8 - There is no better way to encourage a talented artist. Contrary to popular belief artists really don’t like to starve! It is a shame that most of the best artists are ignored in their lifetime. Support for local artists/arts groups means those with traditionally low salaries will be able to continue their efforts and share their talents with the world.
#7 - Some of the best painters of all times may be alive today. The Renaissance may have happened several hundred years ago, but there is still quality art being produced today.
#6 - Art is a great investment. Unlike cars, electronics, and flowers, art appreciates over time. Art won't wear out or expire. Art lasts virtually forever.
#5 - This is the perfect present for someone who already has everything.  Think outside the box. Not everybody needs another iPod, cell phone, digital camera, or gift certificate. Give them a gift that says 'you are special to me.' You'll score points for originality. A beautiful painting hanging on the wall will be a constant reminder of how much you care, long after other gifts have been used up or forgotten.
#4 - The gift of Art is unexpected. Art is thoughtful. Every painting has a story behind it.  Give something different, and more personal.
#3 - Not only American Made but Hand Made!
#2 - You can use art for stress therapy & save tons of money on doctor’s bills while improving your mental health! Art is furniture for your mind (and lasts much longer than your sofa!)
#3 - You’ll be known for your one of a kind good taste because of the art you surround yourself with and the truly unique gift items you give!
Drum roll please…and the#1 - Reason to buy art………….. Three words…. You Deserve it!

Nice break...

I am glad that the holiday season is finally here.  Life always seems to gently slow down a little this time of year, allowing me to spend some extra time with family and evaluate goals for the upcoming year.  I haven't been completely stagnent however, as I have been experimenting with a few "SteamFolk" landscapes.  I'll be sure to post them for you to take a look.  Ultimately, my desire is to continue with figurative work.... I am drawn to the creativity of characters and the oddities & fashion that surrounds them.  It's kinda like sitting in a busy city park....  I often wonder what people do, where they are going and what makes them tick.  Call me wierd I guess.....    painting provides me an avenue to place characters on display and create a sense of wonderment.

I have been given an opportunity to display my painting "The Libasm" at the GoNE Inc, Winter Show next month.  Check out the Events page for more information.  I also have 4 paintings on display at the Enfield Medical Associates for December and January.
